I do know that I am responsible not for what happens to me but for what I make of it.

Who We Are

Denise McIntyre, LCSW

I am a licensed clinical social worker who brings over 15 years of experience with working with all types of people from many different types of backgrounds. I have worked in many different settings before deciding to open up my own private practice. I started McIntyre Counseling in March 2005. I decided to start my own practice after having my twins and wanting to have a flexible schedule so I can be available to my children while still wanting very much to continue to provide services to clients. I am extremely passionate about many things in my life which includes my family first and then my profession a close second. I love my job and what I do and I believe this shows in my personality or at least that's what my clients usually tell me. Its important to know that like you I have many different responsibilities that I deal with on a daily basis and have always tried to practice what I preach. I will readily admit I am not perfect but then again I have never met someone who is perfect. We are all individuals trying to live in a fast paced society and would like to have the best quality of life that we can for ourselves and for the people whom we care about. Although it is a daunting experience coming into therapy I think that once you have met me and gotten to know me you will feel at ease and will return so that we can work on your issues.

Okay on a more serious note... I graduated from Western New England College in 1992 with my Bachelor's in Psychology. I then went about 3 miles down the road to Springfield College and completed my Master in Social Work in 1994. I began working as a therapist right out of school in the Massachusetts area. When I moved to Connecticut in 2002 I started looking at different places to begin a practice but at that time we were also in the midst of getting married and starting a family so I decided to hold off until my twins were about 2. I am a very active person who enjoys keeping very busy with my family, work and playing different sports. I feel that being a well rounded person has aided me in understanding others and being a good therapist, friend, wife, and mom.

Becky Gaffron, LCSW

At first I was going to ask Becky to write something about herself, but since I know her so well I thought I could give you a good feel for who she is. First of all Becky and I became colleagues a number of years ago and from the start we were a good match for each other. We both have similar philosophies on life and on how we conduct therapy. She was very supportive when I left my position to open up my practice and as soon as I could I got her to come on board with me. Becky started at McIntyre Counseling in April of 2006. She graduated in 1994 from Umass with a bachelors in psychology and graduated in 2001 from Uconn with masters of social work. Becky is a down to earth person who provides excellent therapy to her clients. She and her husband were married in 2002 and they have 2 children. Becky and I share our passion for being the best therapist we can for each individual client and it certainly shows in the way she provides a comfortable therapeutic environment. Although Becky was unable to participate in the opening of McIntyre Counseling she has made it her second home. She is available to see all age groups including children which is something that was desperately needed in Enfield.
