Who We Are
Denise McIntyre, LCSW
I am a licensed clinical social worker who brings over 15 years of experience with working with all types of people from many different types of backgrounds. I have worked in many different settings before deciding to open up my own private practice. I started McIntyre Counseling in March 2005. I decided to start my own practice after having my twins and wanting to have a flexible schedule so I can be available to my children while still wanting very much to continue to provide services to clients. I am extremely passionate about many things in my life which includes my family first and then my profession a close second. I love my job and what I do and I believe this shows in my personality or at least that's what my clients usually tell me. Its important to know that like you I have many different responsibilities that I deal with on a daily basis and have always tried to practice what I preach. I will readily admit I am not perfect but then again I have never met someone who is perfect. We are all individuals trying to live in a fast paced society and would like to have the best quality of life that we can for ourselves and for the people whom we care about. Although it is a daunting experience coming into therapy I think that once you have met me and gotten to know me you will feel at ease and will return so that we can work on your issues.Okay on a more serious note... I graduated from Western New England College in 1992 with my Bachelor's in Psychology. I then went about 3 miles down the road to Springfield College and completed my Master in Social Work in 1994. I began working as a therapist right out of school in the Massachusetts area. When I moved to Connecticut in 2002 I started looking at different places to begin a practice but at that time we were also in the midst of getting married and starting a family so I decided to hold off until my twins were about 2. I am a very active person who enjoys keeping very busy with my family, work and playing different sports. I feel that being a well rounded person has aided me in understanding others and being a good therapist, friend, wife, and mom.
