What To Expect
It is often a very hard decision for you to pick up the phone and schedule an initial appointment. You may be very anxious upon arrival at our office, this is very common. At the first session we will go through our initial paperwork with you which usually includes: demographics, history of your issues, family dynamics, relationship issues, medication history and whether or not you have been in therapy before and why you are seeking treatment at this point (what your main concerns are). Then we let you know about our privacy protection, our availability and some other important facts like insurance and fees. We then with your help guide you to whether you would like to come in weekly or every other week for the first few sessions. Then we continue to assess your progress and together make a determination on when we can cut back on your sessions and hopefully discontinue your therapy due to your goals being met.
We unfortunately can not predict how long you would need to be in therapy. That is determined by your level of willingness to work on your issues and how severe your issues are. Clients usually find themselves coming in for one particular issue and thinking that they will only need a few sessions to then getting to know myself and/or Becky and developing other goals to work on since they feel so comfortable.
Success of therapy is based on how willing you are to the suggestions we make as well as the relations you and your therapist has developed. Since therapy is such a personal intimate relationship it is very important that you trust and feel confident in the therapist who have chosen.
